Cala Formentor also known as Cala Pi de la Posada
Cala Formentor or Cala Pi de sa Posada is an inlet in the interior of which is located Cala Gentil, as well as Platja de Formentor, the famous hotel with the same name and in front of its coast the Illa de Formentor. The nearest village is Port de Pollença, at 14 kilometres.
Hotel Formentor is internationally well known thanks to the famous artists and politicians who stayed here, as well as because of the important events which are organized here. Winston Churchill, John Wayne, Octavio Paz and others have been here.
This sandy area is very long but narrow and it is formed by very fine-grained sand of a very clear and white colour.
There is a very thick and green pine and holm oak wood on the headland of Formentor that surround this beach. The branches of the trees nearly touch the crystal clear water of the Mediterranean Sea on this wonderful coastal area.
The marine and underwater conditions are excellent for anchoring boats. But you are recommended to be extremely careful if the wind blows from the southeast, south, southwest because the anchor might move. The sandy ground is at a depth that ranges from five metres at three hectometres from the coast and three metres at two hectometres from the beach. You are not recommended either to pass or anchor in the channel built by the coast and Illa de Formentor because the depth is only one metres. At 3,5 nautical miles there is Port de Pollença.
The accessibility by car is easy following the signs. You can also reach this beach with the public transport. The nearest bus stop is located in the surroundings and this is where you can park as well, although finding a place might be difficult because of the massive influx of local visitors and tourists.

Municipality information Pollença
The municipality of Pollença is situated in the north of Majorca. The origin of the name is supposed to come from Pol.lentia (Roman city) –the Latin word polent, “powerful”-, founded by Quinto Cecilio Metelo in 123 BC after conquering Majorca.
Its landscape is characterized by high mountains, flat valleys, irrigated by torrents, the last linear 26 kilometres of the Serra de Tramuntana (Puig de Ca de Miner, 887 metres high, with a lot of underground cavities), the flat area (Albufereta, important wetland) and an enormous coastal area (it is the majorcan municipality with the most extensive coast; spectacular cliffs, headlands, small islands, the closed bay of Pollença and white sandy beaches).
In 1550 it suffered the violent attack of the pirate Dragut and 1500 Saracene pirates. The local milicy lead by the resident Joan Mas, rejected him, because the captain escaped. This fact is commemorated every year on the 2nd of August in a Moor-Christian mock battle. Between the end of the 19th century and the middle of the 20th century Pollença suffered a migration toward South America, whereas in the seventies it was inverted because of the touristic boom and the construction, replacing the traditional mountain economy.
The cultural variety includes Coves de Sant Vicenç, Roman bridge, Església de Nostra Senyora dels Àngels, Oratori de Roser Vell, Convent de Sant Domingo, Escalonada del Calvari, Puig de Santa Maria (Bien de Interés Cultural and Àrea Natural d’Especial Interès –ANEI), Castell del Rei, possessions (rural fincas) of Son Marc, Formentor and Ternelles (ANEI and Zona de Especial Protección para las Aves), Talaia d’Albercuix.
